Time for a GRAPEATHON!
Well here’s some good news to start your read – BC Gala arrive tomorrow morning. With the desert apples done, and most varieties of early apples also sold through in this very active season, it’s nice to see the first of the crunchy mid-season varieties coming off the trees. And popular Gravensteins arrive this week as well but usually sell through quickly so don’t delay. People are pretty familiar with this one – it’s been around for a long time, discovered as a ‘chance’ seedling in northern Europe in the 1600’s.Those first early BC Purple grapes are starting to roll in and very nice – and a drop in prices on California grapes as well – time for a grapeathon!Don’t be giggling at lemon pricing – it continues to climb as growers try to squeeze every penny out of a very meagre crop, and there doesn’t seem to be a limit on how high this will continue to go.OK, I know you’ve been waiting for these – I know who you are – you have been waiting for the stunning Keitt Mango crop from California – they are here. You’ve been waiting patiently for 11 months – time to come out of the woodwork!Melon weather continues – and a stunning selection of BC crop to choose from. And a continuing great run on peaches and plums. More BC Pears coming off – watch for more early and specialty varieties soon.No surprises on the green veg front – we’re pretty well all local plus a reasonable selection from Ralph’s Greenhouses in Mount Vernon. There are several of you who just want his stuff, and we do our best to carry a reasonable selection for you.The red onion drought is over with new crop from Similkameen River. We’re working on our red potato drought – should have that fixed by the weekend.Keep enjoying an incredible selection of BC fruit and vegetables as we drift into the dog days of August.
